With its manicured gardens and Instagram worthy props, Zhongshe Flower Market (also known as the Chung She Tourist Flower Market) in Taichung is a colourful and quirky explosion of flower fields. Located a short drive from central Taichung, a variety of colourful blooms are set among beautiful water features, musical instruments, flower arches and life size photo frames. Wandering through Zhongshe Flower Market was one of our favourite things to do in Taichung and we wanted to share all the details from our visit including how to get to Zhongshe Flower Market from Taichung.

Zhongshe Flower Market

Although it is named a market, there’s more to the Zhongshe Flower Market than buying and selling flowers.

Colouful flower fields stretch for acres behind the indoor market place and a visit is uplifting and fun. Rows of giant sunflowers sit alongside a lavender field with a piano as its centerpiece and a small pavilion floats in a pond full of water lilies. A picturesque windmill overlooks a field full of tulips, giant photo frames invite silly poses and the flower arches scream Instagram!

After finishing in the gardens the on-site restaurant serves incredible Taiwanese barbecue and is a popular place for locals to gather.

How to get to Zhongshe Flower Market

The Zhongshe Flower Market is located in Houli, a rural district of Taichung. It can be visited while in Taichung, or as part of a day trip from Taipei.

How to get to Zhongshe Flower Market from Taipei

Zhongshe Flower Market can be reached by train or bus from Taipei.

By Train:

The most popular way to travel between Taichung and Taipei is by the Taipei High-Speed Rail (THSR). The journey takes around 40 minutes from any of the major stations in Taipei (Taipei Main Station, Banqiao and Nangang station).

How to visit Zhongshe Flower Market tip: make sure to check the timetable and take the quickest train with a 40 minute journey time. Some of the trains make stops and can take up to 2hours.

After disembarking the train, Zhongshe Flower Market can be easily reached by taxi/Uber, walking or bus from the Taichung High-Speed Railway Station:

• Taxi/Uber: $NT600/$NT700 with a journey time of approximately 40 minutes
• Train: take the TRA from the adjacent Xinwuri Station to Tai’an Station and, from there, it is about a 20 minute walk or 5 minutes/ $NT200 in a taxi/Uber.

By Bus:

Take the Fengyuan Bus 6606 from Taipei Bus Station to the Zhongshe stop. The journey time is approximately 2.5 hours.

Rental Car

We rented a car and drove through Taiwan which we have detailed in our Taiwan with kids itinerary. We drove from Taipei to Taichung and visited Zhongshe Flower Market by car during our stay in Taichung. Parking is available at the entrance to the market. • Train: take the TRA from  the main station, Taiwan Station, to Tai’an Station and, from there, it is about a 20 minute walk or 5 minutes/ $NT200 in a taxi/Uber.

Tips for visiting Zhongshe Flower Market

Zhongshe Flower Market is one of the quirkiest things to in Taichung and we loved the colourful flower fields and countless photo opportunities. Some tips for visiting Zhongshe Flower Market:

• The market is busiest at the weekends so it is best to visit early in the morning or on a weekday.
• The colourful, prop filled flower fields at Zhongshe Flower Market are an Instagram hit. Make sure to arrive close to opening if you are planning on capturing photos, it’s relatively easy to get shots without anyone in the background. We had about an hour to capture uninterrupted shots on the day we visited.

• The market is busiest at the weekends so we found it best to visit early or on a weekday morning.
• Bring sunscreen, a hat and water if temperatures are high. The flower fields are completely exposed to the relentless Taiwan sun.

Zhongshe Flower Market Opening Hours

Zhongshe Flower Market is open daily from 8am. On weekdays the market closes at 6pm and on weekends 9pm.
